Scholarships Awarded

The Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce is pleased to announce that Katie O’Leary is this year’s winner of the “Dick Corn and 1994 State Champions Scholarship” and Zachary Sims is the winner of the “All My Life I Want To Be a Panther” 2001 Championship Scholarship.

These scholarship foundations were established by the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce for the Dick Corn and 1994 State Basketball Champions Scholarship Endowment Fund, and for the 2001 State Champions “All My Life I Want to Be a Panther”. Annually, beginning in May 1996, the foundations has awarded a scholarship to a graduating senior of Pinckneyville Community High School, and beginning in 2001 a scholarship was awarded for the 2001 State Champions Basketball team.

For the 1994 scholarship students must write an essay on a topic provided. Other areas considered are ACT or SAT scores, grade point average, applicant’s curriculum and extracurricular activities. For the 2001 scholarship applicants must list community involvement and community activities, extra curricular activities, grade point average and also submit a two-page essay on a selected topic.
Along with the above requirements, the officers of the Pinckneyville Chamber of Commerce conduct student interviews. The presentation of these awards is made at Senior Achievement Night in April prior to graduation.

Zachary is the son of Steve and Regina Sims of Tamaroa, and Katie is the daughter of Tim and Sherrie O’Leary of Pinckneyville .
